Two weeks ago, we introduced you to Online For Life and one very easy way to get involved in the movement to end abortion. Today we are highlighting one of my personal favorite organizations. Save the Storks exists to rescue as many women as possible from the painful after effects of abortion by providing free ultrasounds right where women need them most: in front of abortion clinics.
On a trip to New York City, David Pomerantz noticed a pregnancy resource center that was experiencing huge success with ultrasound machine equipped shuttle buses parked in front of abortion clinics. He learned that with this method, three out of every five women who entered those buses chose life for their babies. This amazing statistic inspired Pomerantz and a group of friends to work to improve the concept and to turn it into a national brand. Today, Save the Storks works to help pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) around the country purchase their custom Mercedes Benz Sprinter to use as an extension of the established ministries. The size of the bus minimizes parking restrictions, and the design is both attractive and welcoming. The whimsical look and lighthearted nature of the brand truly bring light into a very dark place, and the familiarity across the states makes it a welcome presence to women. Save the storks helps PRCs who wish to add Stork buses to their ministries by providing grants and by offering fund raising ideas with proven results. They then provide extensive training and work in a collaborative effort with the PRC to ensure that all buses are safe, legal, and run with excellence.
This past weekend, Save the Storks concluded a tour of the United States, and a friend of mine had the opportunity to join them! Nicole Hickman is the amazing drummer for Holly Starr, a young, very talented, Jesus-loving artist. When asked for her thoughts on the organization, Nicole said:
“Two things have really stood out to me about Save The Storks. One, three out of five women who get on the bus choose to keep their baby! Those are statistics which actually represent a positive influence being made…[and two] even if the mother goes through with the abortion, Save The Storks offers counseling and grieving services for the mother and will continue to walk through this season of life with her. They stand in the gap to love on these young women, and that is an organization that has the Kingdom in mind.”
She added:
“They love both the mother, the baby, and their future. Not only do they care about the baby in the womb, but once the woman gives birth, Save the Storks stays with the woman, helping her figure out anything from finances to diapers to possible adoption options. Save the Storks is founded on love.”
